Lauren and Aaron had met in graduate school and were working as therapists at the time of the attack. They married in 2014, just months after the incident. With the help of a supportive therapist, Lauren began her emotional recovery and was encouraged to use her story to inspire others. She pursued a Doctorate in Social Work at the University of Tennessee, specializing in the neuroscience of trauma, and became certified in various trauma treatments. She then moved into private practice, focusing on helping women heal from traumatic experiences.
A few years later, Aaron joined Lauren in her practice, working with trauma survivors as well. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, both their professional and personal lives were turned upside down. As they managed their children’s education and continued their therapy work, they noticed many of their clients, who had previously improved, were experiencing a resurgence of symptoms. The pandemic had reignited physical and emotional distress for people who had been in remission for years, leaving them stuck.
OUR STORY
Dr. Lauren Hannah and Aaron Hannah opened Pivot Integrative Health in 2024, but the roots of their company took hold a decade earlier after a personal tragedy that reshaped their lives. Little did they know that this event would inspire them to create a space where true healing could occur.
In 2014, Dr. Lauren Hannah—then known as Lauren White—was working with a forensic population when a client, who had stopped taking their medications, violently attacked her. She was stabbed over 17 times with a butcher knife before a courageous nurse intervened and saved her life. Covered in blood and gravely injured, Lauren was rushed to the hospital, where Aaron met her amidst the chaos. Detectives were present, waiting for her statement, while the emergency team worked to assess her extensive injuries. It was a traumatic day for everyone involved.
Lauren underwent emergency surgery, followed by multiple procedures to repair her wounds. Despite these efforts, she permanently lost over 50% of the function in her right hand. Though her other injuries eventually healed, the emotional scars were deep for both her and Aaron.
By 2022, Lauren and Aaron began exploring more integrative approaches to trauma treatment. They sought holistic solutions that could provide lasting relief when traditional therapies had been exhausted. Pivot Integrative Health started to take shape as they researched and trained in innovative methods to address the physical and emotional impacts of trauma. Their goal was to offer a holistic approach to mental health, recognizing that trauma affects every aspect of life.
Today, Pivot Integrative Health stands as a testament to Lauren and Aaron's resilience and dedication to helping others. Their personal journey through trauma has equipped them with a unique understanding of the healing process, enabling them to create a space where clients can find not only relief but true transformation. Pivot is more than just a mental health practice—it’s a place where science, compassion, and holistic care intersect to foster long-lasting change for those seeking recovery.
